I discovered photography through my family. My uncle works in the film industry, and was my main exposure to the world of photography. It amazed me how he was able to capture so much emotion in both his cinematic and photographic work.

I gravitated towards photography because of this. I was amazed by the photographs he showed me, full of emotion and meaning, whose interpretation was left to the viewer. With these ideas shaping my initial views of photography, I slowly worked to master my skills and work to develop my own personal style, which one day could reflect these auras I aspired to represent through my work. I am by no means close to this, however; these are the ideas that drive my creative process.

Currently I am focusing on Portrait work, and street photography. For portraiture I am working both in the studio and on location, with inspiration from the work of Bastiann Woudt and Will Saunders. I plan to diversify my portfolio through portraiture, and add more conceptual work as I continue on my journey. I am shooting street photography to constantly improve my technical skills. My current street work focuses on ideas of texture, colour, and shape. Through the inspiration of works by Niels Stoltenborg and Wrapped.nil, I try to look through a less conventional lens, looking for smaller scale compositions that focus on light and shape to create unconventional views of city life.

What began as my hobby, I plan to make my career. I’m taking Photography Studies in the Image Arts Program at X University in Toronto. Following this path and studying at Ryerson has provided me with opportunities to improve my skills and understanding of photography, through working and discussing with other artists. I look forward to enhancing my portfolio, and building a business that allows me to share my art with others.
